Letter from the President

28-Apr-2010

Dear Members,

Mark your Calendar “Out of the Office and at the Kellogg Center on August 12, 2010”. The Michigan Brain Injury Provider Council, following the lead of the Brain Injury Association of America’s Business and Professional Council, is adding a new learning opportunity focusing on Business Practices. We will offer this new “Learn Over the Day” to business leaders, business and/or clinical managers, and other administrative level staff of our member organizations for a nominal cost of $50.  Cost for non-members is $250 and includes a complimentary 1 year membership in MBIPC at the associate level.

This year, the following topics will be addressed:

  • Outcomes management and the Mayo Portland Adaptability Inventory-4.  The measurement of functional outcome is one of several areas that you should be reviewing to assure that your program is meeting its intended goal.  Brain Injury post acute programs nationwide are all starting to use the MPAI-4.  Learn about this tool and how to train your staff to use this tool.
  • Ethical Pricing of Services. Do you know how to justify your charges to insurance companies?  Have you used an acceptable accounting method for determining the cost of the service you provide?  Have you included all of your expenses in a manner that allows you to make a profit?  Whether you are a non-profit or for profit provider, this session’s speaker will offer valuable insight.
  • Maximizing your relationship with your legislator:  We can only run a business/provide a service when we have an adequate funding source. Our livelihood is currently threatened by the passage of bills in our state legislature. Learn how to be effective in grass roots advocacy.

Over lunch, hear an update on the work being performed by the BIAA’s Business and Professional Council.  A registration form will be posted in the near future.
