Care Providers Hopeful After a Change in Leadership in the State Legislature

Judd: ‘We hope the Governor gets the bill she has been calling for to restore the continuum of care crash victims deserve’

BRIGHTON, Mich.—(Nov. 9, 2022)— Michigan Brain Injury Provider Council (MBIPC) Executive Director Tom Judd today released the following statement in response to the mid-term election results:

“MBIPC has repeatedly stated the crisis in care facing Michigan crash victims is not a partisan issue. It is an issue of justice, fairness, common sense, and equity.

MBIPC congratulates all the winners in the state legislature races and to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on her reelection. We specifically thank those candidates who made the need for a legislative fix to the no-fault reform law to end the crisis in care a part of their campaign messaging.

We hope the Governor gets the bill she has been calling for to restore the continuum of care crash victims deserve. MBIPC looks forward to working with the new legislature to develop a narrow fix establishing a viable long-term solution that brings consistency and reliability to the auto insurance system through a reasonable fee schedule, which allows providers to restore the continuum of care crash victims need.

Studies conducted by MPHI, reports from Poverty Solutions at the University of Michigan, articulation of the problem by the State’s Long-Term Care Ombudsman, resolutions by 34 county commissioners, and the pleas from disability advocates at the state and federal level continue to emphasize what crash survivors, their families and care providers have pleaded for too long. Our new legislature needs to respond to those in need by passing a true fee schedule that brings consistency and reliability to the system while ensuring rehabilitation and care is available to those in need.”
