MBIPC Disappointed Care Crisis not Mentioned in State of the State Address

Judd: ‘The Senate has acted, and now it is up to the House to deliver’

BRIGHTON, Mich.—(Jan. 24, 2024)—Tom Judd, executive director of the Michigan Brain Injury Provider Council, today expressed disappointment that Governor Gretchen Whitmer did not mention ending Michigan’s crisis in care during her State of the State speech last night.

While a specific call to action was not included in last night’s speech, the Governor recently stated her commitment to “make it right” and work toward passing a legislative solution in a recent conversation with Tim Skubick.

Judd shared this statement below:

“It is disheartening that ending the crisis in care was not included in the Governor’s State of the State address. In terms of priority for this Legislature, there can be nothing more important than ensuring people catastrophically injured in a car crash have access to quality rehabilitation and care they have contracted and paid for.

However, despite not being included in last night’s speech, we are confident the Governor remains committed to her calls for the Legislature to advance solutions to her desk. The Senate has acted, and now it is up to the House to deliver. Senate Bills 530, 531 and 575 provide the reasonable fee schedule and sustainable system required to end this sad chapter of our state’s history.”
